การใช้ Present Perfect Continuous Tense
โครงสร้าง (S. + has/have been + V.ing)
ใช้ได้เฉพาะกริยาที่มีการต่อเนื่อง ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีตและดำเนินติดต่อกันเรื่อยมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน เช่น
Bill has been living in Bangkok since 1975. บิลอยู่ในกรุงเทพมาตั้งแต่ปี 1975.
จะเห็นว่า การใช้ Present Perfect Continuous ก็เหมือนกับการใช้ Present Perfect ธรรมดา เพียงแต่ Present Perfect Continuous เน้นถึงความต่อเนื่องของเวลามากกว่า Present Perfect ธรรมดาเท่านั้น
ปกติ : Bill has lived in Bangkok since 1975.
เน้นความต่อเนื่อง : Bill has been living in Bangkok since 1975. บิลอยู่ในกรุงเทพมาตั้งแต่ปี 1975.
ปกติ : He has worked on the problem for two hours so far.
เน้นความต่อเนื่อง : He has been working on the problem for two hours so far. เขาทำโจทย์มาเป็นเวลา 2 ชั่วโมงแล้ว
Note ควรระวังว่ากริยาที่ไม่แสดงความต่อเนื่องของการกระทำ ( continuity of action ) จะใช้ tense นี้ไม่ได้
ผิด : The train has been arriving.
ถูก : The train has arrived.
ผิด : The clock has been stopping.
ถูก : The clock has stopped.
ระวังว่าเราจะไม่ใช้ Perfect Continuous กับคำต่อไปนี้ just, already, never, finally
